Learning The Streets

I am directionally challenged. I still don’t know my way around metro Detroit and I lived there practically my whole life. Thank goodness for portable GPS systems.

Now that I am in a new city I am going to try my best to navigate the turf without help from Susan. (Susan is what I call my GPS system)

Here is what I have learned so far compliments of an Official Visitors Map:

- DC is 67 square miles and divided into 4 quadrants.
- Numbered streets run north-south
- Letters streets run east-west alphabetically becoming 2 syllable names and then 3 syallable names as you move away from the center.
- There are no J,X,Y,or Z streets
- Avenue names for U.S. states run diagonally.

Ummm ok, not sure how much help that will be but who knows; north, south, east, west…2 syllables, avenues…let me make sure Susan is charged up.
