Five Guys: Burgers, Fries, and Noise

fiveguysburgers.jpgBefore I moved here, I’d heard that Five Guys was the place to go…especially for a burger connoisseur such as myself. So I headed to the one on Dupont Circle in order to see if it lived up to the hype.

Pros:

- Several free topping choices

- The portions of fries were huge

- The burger was delicious

Cons:

-The music was way too loud. I could barely hear them call out my order

- There was this loud, clunky cleaning girl who kept picking up tables and chairs and slamming them down. For some reason she kept cleaning the tables in front of and behind me; so while I was chewing all I could hear was blasting music and “clunk, wipe, slam…clunk, wipe, slam…”

- There was a girl at the register who was on her cell phone the entire time I was there. (This is not really a con, I just thought it was unprofessional)

Recommendations: The burger is worth the trip, but order to go, especially if you suffer from migraines.

    Diva,

I’m going to 5 guys tommorrow and my mouth is watering in eager anticipation. I would rather pay the high price at 5Gs once every two weeks than eat the cheap crap at McDonalds and BK. At least you are getting quality food. And the fries are to die for!

As for the Dupont Circle store, Thanks for the heads up. I won’t be going to that location, not if they act that way.

It is a burger joint so that is to be expected. Then again, I think you just went to the wrong location at the wrong time. 5G is normally much better than that.

@ Gil- The fries are very good. I didn’t think I’d like them because I usually don’t like seasoned fries. I am glad I tried them anyway.

@ Andrew..LOL, as the self proclaimed burger queen I’ve never been to a dining establishment that was so loud…unless you count a nightclub that serves food.

I can’t say that I’ve ever eaten inside a 5G restaurant; the ones I’ve been to don’t usually have seating. The other time I’ve been was at Tyson’s Corner where 5G is part of the food court, and that’s noisy all of the time. I still dig the burgers though; they’re the top of the line as far as fast food goes. I’d definitely recommend the pick-up, it’s quick and easy.

  5. Diva,
Thanks for the comment on my blog. I have to agree with you on this FiveGuys. The music is way too loud and the staff, despite being many, are slow to react. They just don’t seem to be doing that well in this spot, maybe because the area has become so yuppy, double-income-no-kids focused, that the neighbors don’t want to go indulge in a few hard earned calories. I tend to hit the place after a long run down Conn. Ave. Cause after you are all sweaty, who cares if you come out of the place smelling like grease, Eau de Five Guys. You know what I mean.
    Later.

  6. Five Guys have the best burgers in DC, but I agree, take them to go. Since they wrap them in alum foil, they stay warm on the ride home.

Maybe it’s just me, but when I go to a burger place and EVERYTHING is ala carte and my total is around $8 for a small fries, small burger and a drink, that’s just ridiculous….especially when all the ads posted on the walls say best bargain in town (this was at the Alexandria location).
