I am starting to believe that my apartment has a very strange history. Who in the world used to live here?
First, Comcast gives me a hard time about installing new service. Something about there’s still an open account at this address so I can’t open one because it could be fraud. Ummm ok.
Then a few days after I move in, husband and I are coming back from the store. There’s this girl banging on the door. I ask if I can help her and she gets an attitude and tells me no. I then ask who is she looking for because she’s knocking on my husband’s door. “Oh..so & so don’t live here?” No lady, she doesn’t. (Yes I typed “don’t live here” because that’s what she said.)
Of course there was the whole phone situation, I won’t go into that again.
But today was the strangest of them all. I am in the room working and I hear someone knock on the door, then they ring the doorbell. I thought it was the Mr. but I was wondering why he would keep knocking if he knows sometimes it takes a minute to get to the door.
Next I hear someone struggling to place a key in. They are turning and turning the key and it’s not working. I know it’s not the Mr. because he wouldn’t be struggling to get in like that.
*key turn, key turn, bang, bang, bang*
I peep out the window and there’s this scary looking thug guy .
*Quick do I grab a knife and open the door or do I just open it?*
I opened it and once again I was faced with the “how can I help you?” He says, “They told me apt. xxx”.
I am thinking; Excuse me? What is this? Someone coming to place a hit? “Do you know (insert name)? They told me to come to apt. xxx”
“Sorry, I just moved here” I said.
“Alright” he said and he ran down the stairs.
Did I almost get murdered or am I over reacting? Gosh someone please beam me back to the suburbs.

Why did you open the door?
Hi there. So I read on another blog about your unhappiness with the living situation in DC, and wanting to return to Michigan. Funny thing is, I just moved from Michigan last Tuesday and I’m sooo ready to flee back there. It’s soooo expensive here. From apartments to groceries to even a simple sandwich. Geez! So, just wanted to tell you you’re not alone. I’ll be reading your blog. Thanks for sharing your life here. I’m learning so much from DC blogs.
Reflex…I guess.
