Pros and Cons of Living in DC

About DC has a list of pros and cons of living in DC. I’m going to share that list, along with my opinions based upon my experiences so far.

Pros:

  • Plenty of things to do. I hear this all of the time but I haven’t experienced it yet. I always hear “there’s always something to do, there’s always something to do” yet I find myself bored.
  • Mild weather and four seasons. When I came here in February or March the weather was decent. This summer it’s was way too hot. I’m not use to having to wear a ponytail every day. On the positive side, I hope that means that it won’t get that cold in the winter. That’s the one thing I won’t miss about Michigan.
  • Central location. I agree. I like being able to go into Virginia at the drop of a hat.
  • Diversity of people. Yup, it’s diverse.
  • Variety of Neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are very interesting to me. For instance where I live, it’s just ugh but right down the street there are these wonderful brand new condos. It’s funny to me because these nice condos are smack dab in the middle of a terrible, ugly-looking neighborhood.

Cons:

  • Terrible traffic. I don’t think anyone can argue with that. Besides the terrible amounts of traffic there are the people who just can’t drive. It’s as if some people think they are the only person on the road.
  • High cost of living and housing- This is my biggest complaint. You should not have to spend $400K to live in the hood.
  • High stress level. The About Guide was referring to people working long hours. I think it’s stressful due to everything mentioned above- the terrible traffic, high cost of living, and due to the crime rate.
