I’m going to try something a little different and just post a few photos from my trip to the National Aquarium. A full review will come later.

For some reason I was amazed that the turtle swam to the top in order to get air. Duh.

Those sharks stuck together.

This was the most beautiful thing there. Too bad my flash got in the way of the picture.

I did not want to get a new car insurance policy. Everything else in DC costs an arm and a leg so I assumed a new policy would too, especially considering I’m the the ghetto. So I stalled, and stalled until I couldn’t stall anymore.
I did my research and imagine my surprise when I received a few quotes that were the same as or less than what I was paying in Michigan. What’s that all about?
I was all set to press the “order” button on Geico’s website but then I decided to call in just to make sure I had everything correct. Making a phone call is like hot death to me; especially when a company has a website, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.
The lady was extremely happy to help me purchase my policy. So happy in fact that if I hadn’t already been ready to order I would have felt pressured…those darn sales techniques.
She was very patient and answered all my questions. And you know my number was question was...”and if my car gets stolen…” She assured me, I was covered and that’s all I need to know.
I liked that you could pay by credit card and pay in installments. The other company I was considering didn’t offer that. I also appreciated that the service representative gave me some hints on using the policy “don’t file a claim if…because it would be cheaper to…” She also told me some of the things that they offer free of charge.
And I thought Geico was just a bunch of hype hiding behind a happy lizard. I hope they are as friendly if I ever need to make a claim.

Hillary Clinton has breasts! Oh my goodness alert the media!
Somehow I missed this Pulitzer’s Prize winning piece in the Washington Post titled “Hillary Clinton’s Tentative Dip Into New Neckline Territory“. No, that’s not a cute play on words to describe a new initiative she’s launching, they are literally talking about how her outfit accentuates her neckline.
Of all the things in the world to write about, someone chose to write a piece critiquing her fashion sense? I’m sorry is this Vogue because I swear the site says Washington Post. Forget her stance on health care, the war, economics… it’s more important that we know “The last time Clinton wore anything that was remotely sexy in a public setting surely must have been more than a decade ago, during Bill Clinton’s first term in office..”
What’s next? Are we going to have an article on the intimate details of Giuliani’s shoe size in relation to his…? Oh wait, I forgot, an article this frivolous would only be written about a woman candidate.

About DC has a list of pros and cons of living in DC. I’m going to share that list, along with my opinions based upon my experiences so far.
Pros:
- Plenty of things to do. I hear this all of the time but I haven’t experienced it yet. I always hear “there’s always something to do, there’s always something to do” yet I find myself bored.
- Mild weather and four seasons. When I came here in February or March the weather was decent. This summer it’s was way too hot. I’m not use to having to wear a ponytail every day. On the positive side, I hope that means that it won’t get that cold in the winter. That’s the one thing I won’t miss about Michigan.
- Central location. I agree. I like being able to go into Virginia at the drop of a hat.
- Diversity of people. Yup, it’s diverse.
- Variety of Neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are very interesting to me. For instance where I live, it’s just ugh but right down the street there are these wonderful brand new condos. It’s funny to me because these nice condos are smack dab in the middle of a terrible, ugly-looking neighborhood.
Cons:
- Terrible traffic. I don’t think anyone can argue with that. Besides the terrible amounts of traffic there are the people who just can’t drive. It’s as if some people think they are the only person on the road.
- High cost of living and housing- This is my biggest complaint. You should not have to spend $400K to live in the hood.
- High stress level. The About Guide was referring to people working long hours. I think it’s stressful due to everything mentioned above- the terrible traffic, high cost of living, and due to the crime rate.

Someone sent this question to All Diva Media about this blog. Since I’m the writer, I feel I should answer it.
Q: Why do you have a blog named “Diva in DC” about a woman who doesn’t appreciate all that the city has to offer? Maybe “Disgruntled/ Discontent/ Despondent Diva in DC” may be more fitting? I do appreciate her outlook - some people just prefer suburban life to city life - but I was hoping to find a Diva who flitted her way around the city discovering all the new hot spots, appreciated museums, critiqued restaurants, and was generally positive about her environment.
A: You make a good point, but I’m not going to be positive about an environment that’s not positive. When my day is filled with problems with my utilities, car alarms going off at all hours of the night, strange men banging on my door, and a ghetto neighborhood; I’m not going to write about how pretty the roses are outside. I can’t write about a life I don’t live.
However in all fairness everything I write is not a complaint, and the majority of the content is about restaurants I’ve been to in DC and the surrounding areas. Now if the
restaurant has a major service problem, that’s not my fault. I present both the pros and the cons.
I am certainly not the only person who has a slight bias against this city. Though I do acknowledge that this blog shows up in the top 10 in Google for I hate dc.
But let’s face it, someone has to tell it like it is. I assume DC is not called the murder capital due to the quality of the museums that are offered.
If you want to read about why you should tour dc, then read Jon’s DC Traveler. If you want to read about why DC may not be the ideal living situation then here’s the place you need to be.
By the way, that image is not a gross exaggeration. That whole “cost of living” thing can really kick you in the butt.
